“El cirerer”
Original Score, Hand-Built Foley & Sound Design — String Quartet & Portuguese Guitar

El cirerer is a tale from Fadapaca, produced for TV3, a Catalan animated series set in a landscape that carries the weight and warmth of the Mediterranean. The piece called for a score that was emotional and introspective, which I translated into a string quartet and Portuguese guitar — the guitar carrying both melody and texture at once, its plucked resonance anchoring it.

The foley grew out of patience more than technique. Paper and silk fans became butterflies caressing the cherry tree, drawing on the geza ensemble of Japanese kabuki theatre, where sound interprets reality without being realistic. Rain, a ladybird's small footsteps and the sound of the night mix with real effects: a sheep's bleat, an old car engine. Real and invented sounds create layers of timelessness, reinforcing the film's 2D visual language.

The music was written to stay small. Like a koan, it was meant to hold its meaning in simplicity — to leave room for something older than the story itself: the plain, unguarded feeling that belongs to childhood. A sound, an image, or a smell brings us back to someone, a place, a feeling — memories we can barely place within our own soul.
